Young Swiftie remains in hospital after fatal car crash

The godmother of the two young girls involved in a horror crash last week on their way to see Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Melbourne has provided an update on their fundraiser page.

After their car collided head on with a semi-trailer near Dubbo on February 15, Mieka Pokarier, 16, died at the scene, while Freya, 10, remains in a coma at Westmead Hospital.

Karleigh Fox made the update on their GoFundMe page on Friday which has since raised more than $84,000.

“We don’t have any updates on our darling Freya’s condition for you,” Ms Fox said in her statement.

“We are just surrendering to this process of continued patience and working through all of the logistical work that comes with staying in a town that not our own, grieving for Mieka.

“The hospital have provided an incredible Chaplain and social workers to help us navigate our obstacles and feelings.”

Ms Fox said the surgeons and nurses have continued to care for Freya, who was left with serious brain injuries, a damaged pelvis and a broken leg.

The girls’ mother has since been discharged from hospital.

Their godmother said they have officially moved into Ronald McDonald House where meals and quality accommodation are provided.

“We are so grateful,” Ms Fox said.

“This family helped me 5 years ago when my own foster baby was in ICU so it’s nice to return the favour.

“Freya’s school has changed their school bell to play Taylor for her… they have sent so many videos and emails for her to listen to, it’s been absolutely wonderful.”

Ms Fox appealed to the Swifties heading to Taylor Swift’s concerts over the next few nights and asked if anyone could send her a stream of the concert she could play at Freya’s bedside.

“Receiving your well wishes, photos of your bracelets for the girls and hearing your individual stories of strength have helped us significantly,” Ms Fox said.
